Barstow — Harvey House / BNSF Yard

Safety: goodstation

Barstow, CA

BNSFAmtrak

Access & safety

Public access

The restored Harvey House station is open to the public (Western America Railroad Museum + Route 66 Mother Road Museum on-site). Platform and parking area give clear views of BNSF Transcon mainline and the adjacent classification yard.

Safety notes

Station platform is public access. Yard areas beyond the platform are BNSF property — stay on the public side. Heat hazard in summer (110°F+ common); bring water.

Parking

Free museum parking lot. Plenty of capacity.

Best time of day

Morning for east-facing platform shots; the mainline runs east-west, so afternoon light works for westbound trains.

Train frequency

Very high — BNSF's Cajon Sub meets the Transcon here. 80-120+ trains/day. Amtrak Southwest Chief stops daily in each direction.

Nearby

Two museums on-site (free admission). Restrooms and gift shop. Downtown Barstow nearby.
